Welcome to Bellair Elementary and Mrs. Feldman's Classroom
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Welcome to Bellair Elementary. My name is Mrs. Diana Feldman and I have the wonderful opportunity to work with your child this year. Although this is my nineth year teaching in resource, I have over fifteen years of personal experience in special education. In addition to my teaching and personal experience, I hold a B.S. in Education from Northern Arizona University and a Special Education Certification thru Rio Salado College. Please know in advance, that I am truly honored to be both teaching and learning from your child this academic school year.
I plan on working very closely with your child’s classroom teacher to provide a positive learning experience for him or her. I will be teaching to the goals and objectives identified in your child’s IEP. However, I will also give assistance in other academic areas such as social studies and science as needed. I will try to integrate as many learning objectives from the regular classroom as possible. My hope is to help students become successful and comfortable in all learning environments.
In order for students to realize this type of success, it will involve parents and teachers working together. I would like to ask your assistance in making sure that your child completes his/her homework on time and has the items needed in order to complete assignments. Students should come to class prepared for the day. They should have their textbooks, notebook with assignment calendar and paper. They should also have a pouch with pencils and erasers. (This is the same notebook and supplies they will need for the homeroom classroom.) In addition, it would be helpful if students had highlighters in order to highlight any homework assignments each day.
One of my goals for this year is for each and every child to learn to be responsible for their behavior and for their academic education. This will require each student to meet my classroom expectations.
Treat all people with kindness and respect.
If a student is unable to meet an expectation, he/she will receive a warning (reminder). If the expectation is still not met, a time out and parent contact will take place. This would be followed by partner-room timeout/parent contact, detention, restitution (if appropriate) and pink slip to office/matrix (severe infraction) as a final consequence. My hope is never to go beyond the first two consequences, however, it is necessary that students and parents understand what is expected and what consequences follow if expectations are not met.
A reward system will also be in place for good work and behavior habits. Praise is high on my priority list for students.
I look forward to meeting you in the future. Please feel free to contact me about any questions or concerns you might have. You can reach me at school by calling 602-467-5745 or by emailing me at [email protected]. I will respond to your calls or emails as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
